Karkidakam is the last month of the Malayalam calendar (followed in Kerala, India), which falls during the months of July to August. With the coming of Karkidaka, the monsoon rains enters its final phase in Kerala.
This drastic transition of the seasons from the sweltering summer to heavy rainfall has a profound impact on our body’s strength and immunity, which is why it is extremely important that we take great care of our diet and health at this time! It is said that during Karkidakam, our vital digestive functioning, or ‘digestive fire’, weakens due to the weather conditions.
